Twas The Night Before ....

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,

BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP.
I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS,
I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.

THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED -
THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,
BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION
WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,
THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.
SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,
AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.
GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,
PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,
'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.
I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,
WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.
BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES....
HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,
MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.
MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.
MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS.
MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,
MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

This is the first Thanksgiving Weekend I think we haven't made a Turkey dinner, either ever or for a long long time .... as I  have done them for many Years past.

Oops, I just remembered, the Year our house burned and we were living in a Trailer while building our new one, we had KFC for Thanksgiving Dinner.  It had been the "pits".

Felt kind of strange this weekend, however I have been otherwise occupied with ....

"Finishing up with the Tomato Sauce I finally got cooked down around 10:30 last night."

"Before I knew it, this day had arrived in seemingly a "blink of an eye"."

"Once the morning had gotten a little brighter our friends the Blue Jays were back at the Sunflower buffet in our garden."

I know I should have been doing all those things that needed doing, like cleaning the bathroom, vacuuming and washing floors, but that wasn't going to put me into the Spirit of Thanksgiving now was it?  Giving and sharing would be more like it.  I got right to it by .... what I enjoy doing of course, baking up a storm.

"Pineapple and Banana .... yum, yum, yum.  Even yummier with some nuts thrown in."

I "cheated" on the frosting by using a can of Whipped Betty Crocker Cream Cheese Frosting.  It was all good.  Dishes all done up, on I went to the next order of the day....

"Pumpkin meets Pineapple."

Recipe for Harvest Pumpkin-Pineapple Loaf please?  PRINTABLE RECIPE HERE.

The "taste tests" have been done.  Both are 10*Star and keepers !!!  Let the sharing begin.....

I had just sat down for a coffee after the loaves had been taken from the oven when someone came to the door.  Oh man was I ever surprised as my sweet Niece Stacey.  They had brought their new baby girl to see me before they headed out to their next Thanksgiving function on down the road.

"My Niece, Stacey with her most awesome hubby, Jay, and their two sweet children, Logan and Keelan.  Way too adorable, all four of them ! "

I couldn't believe my eyes, as Stacey and Jay had just left our driveway, as we were almost back in the house, another vehicle came in our driveway.  This time it was our Niece, Tamara, with her two children, Austyn and Sydney.  I was sorry I was unable to take any photos, as they are all adorable too.

I was beyond "tickled" pink, purple and blue our driveway had been revolving so pleasantly within minutes of  each of their arrivals.  I was very "thankful" for their visits.

"Each and everyone of them left with a piece of, still warm, Hummingbird Cake."

Once our revolving driveway had stopped, Rob and I got ourselves ready as we were heading on over to Owen Sound for a bit of shopping and to have a "Thanksgiving Dinner" with two of our very good friends ....

"Doug and Vicki made plans to drive up to meet us for dinner this day."

"Bring on the Buffet !!! "

"As well as the regular Buffet items, there had also been Turkey, dressing and gravy."

"My plate with only 1 little deep fried breaded item on it (my dessert plate otherwise made up for it)."

"...and Rob's plate slathered with gravy and such.  Ha !  he enjoyed every morsel I am sure, as he rarely gets gravy at home anymore."

We had a fantastic time as usual with Doug and Vicki.  I sent them on their way with a little "care package" as well.  It is all about sharing and giving, is it not?

"I am sure there was lots of this going on across Canada, Yesterday, Today, and still tomorrow on Thanksgiving Day."

"One doesn't have to look far to see even one little thing to be Thankful for."

I am always thankful for my family and friends day in and day out.  I am truly "Blessed" every day I awaken, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

    1. It was very good Lena. Although you tend to eat way more then you ever normally would at home. The downfall to buffets, along with the mentality of getting your Money's worth.

  2. I hadn't planned on baking tomorrow, but after seeing those recipes I may have a change of mind.
