Birthday Celebrations

I had a pretty busy week last week.  I headed down to New Hamburg on the Wednesday, July 6th, as it was my youngest son's birthday, and I wanted to surprise him.  Yes I did surprise him.

As it happened a truck had broke down at his work, resulting in him getting the day off which was perfect !  It was also our granddaughter, Chloe's birthday on the 8th of July.  Lots of birthday celebrations on my visit.

Chloe turned 11 years old.  She loves the BBQ sauce from Miner's Maple Products, so I had my friend, Abby, make a 1 litre bottle for her.  She was one happy camper when she got it (and she will be sharing all of that with the rest of the family).

We all had a fun day with Paul at home for his 33rd Birthday !  The five kids, Josh, Aiden, Chloe, Briar & Connor made him a super huge "candy" card.

It is nice that I am able to go down to visit every once in awhile, as Rob is so very good to hold down the fort while I am gone.

When I had returned back home my Clematis have been coming into full bloom.  I so enjoy the three different varieties.

I have finally gotten back to walking more again, and strive to do so on a daily basis.  My friend, BJ and I, walked almost 4 miles the other day, and this morning I did 1.66 miles.  Walking the past few months with my friend, Sharon, really helped me build my stamina again.  Thank goodness for friends !!!

On our walk BJ and I had been fortunate to see Wiarton Willie out, and then came upon a red headed woodpecker, who had been very intent on whatever he had been after.  I could not believe the woodpecker never even budged as we passed by him.  Yes VERY INTENT.

Ha ! I suppose I should think about blogging again every day, or at least every second day, since I have a difficult time some days remembering what I did !

A Little Slow

I have been a little slow posting since my last Blog Post, however I have had great intentions to do so before now, however Life just kept getting in my way.

I was back at my Doctors last Friday.  He increased my new meds by 25mg, and we are hoping we can stay at 50mg without any increased.  The good news? I graduated from seeing him every two weeks to seeing him in a months time ! also that I have actually been feeling like a human being again !!!  Hooray for the new meds and me !

Our friends, Doug & Vicki, had been up with their RV to visit with us this past weekend.  We had a great weekend !  Vicki and I managed to hit up a couple of yard sales, then Saturday evening we all had dinner at the Harriston Park Inn in Owen Sound.  Vicki & I had the Lasagna, which we agreed was as good as our own homemade, and the guys each had a steak dinner.  More on the Harriston Park Inn by *clicking* HERE.

Now onto a few photo/highlights of the past week:

Rob and I had been at Subway for a meal Friday evening.  With my sub I thought I would try the Pure Leaf Green Tea with Honey....oh my did I ever like it.  We found that Shopper's Drugmart sells the large bottle (1.75 L) at the most reasonable price, so Rob picked me up a Raspberry as they didn't have the other.  Yes the raspberry is very good too, however I think my fav is the Green Tea & Honey.

Growing up we had a patch of Rhubarb growing in our backyard, quite large if I remember correctly.  Every year I remember my Mom making Rhubarb Stew (some people call it Rhubarb Sauce).  I started a couple of Rhubarb plants a couple of years ago.

Saturday I made Rhubarb Stew for my brother, who absolutely loves it.  I think I have pretty much made it for him since I have had Rhubarb, except for one year.  He is very appreciative when he receives his Rhubarb Stew.  It is so easy to make:  6 cups of cut up Rhubarb, 2 tbsp. of water, and 1 cup of sugar, simmered on medium heat until the Rhubarb breaks down and sugar dissolves.  Cool & serve plain or over Ice cream if preferred.  Yummy !

My rose bush at the west side of our house began blooming.  This is the exact kind of rose bush that was at the side of the house at my Mom & Dad's when I was growing up.  Love when it is blooming and showy.

This is one of my favourite times of the Year with everything fresh and coming into all its glory.  Three of my many Hostas which I love admiring, and one very nice Iris full of colour.

Rob got going on getting our Gazebo cleaned up after this past Fall/Winter.  We have all our Summer furniture put in, so now it is just a matter of me getting it the way I want it "just so".  Not sure when this will happen, but hopefully by next week.

Rob was out this afternoon pruning some of our pine trees, and maple trees.  The lower pine tree branches needed pruned so we could get by with the lawn tractor.

Today I actually got my kitchen floor washed as well as the area around the Wood Stove and along the patio door.  Will wonders every cease? it has been a long time coming, and believe me I am so happy I am able to get at things once again.

When my friend, Sharon, & I had been out walking the other day, Wiarton Willie had been out having himself a bit of dinner.  He does not mind having his photo taken at all, as you can see.

I got a text from an unknown person today, asking me how I was.  I was delighted to know it was my friend, Lynn from Turnips 2 Tangerines.  It is so nice to have friends close and afar, is it not?  Lynn has a Foodie Blog, and that is how we became friends through our blogs.  Interested in some new recipes? check Lynn's blog out by *clicking* HERE.

I have a Chamber meeting this evening, so I best be off and running here (can you believe I am running again, just after spending months on my couch??  YAY me!), Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard.

Wee Wiarton Willie, Quilts & Kindness

Did I sleep last night? part of the night, and part is much better then none in my books.

I had fabulous plans to get the bathroom cleaned and floors washed today.  Yes that most certainly did NOT happened as I was, once again, sidetracked.  Being sidetracked is something that is not unusual in my daily routine, or lack of one I should say.  Sadly by 1 pm my pockets of energy had been beyond depleted and I found myself on the couch the remainder of the day.

When I had been "out on tour" on errands within our Town of Wiarton, I detoured down to the Wiarton Chamber Office.  Much to my surprises, wee Wiarton Willie, was not only out, he also came .....

... running towards me, as to say, "good morning", however I knew the reality was more, "do you have any carrots or zucchini"?  What a cutie now his has "blown" his Winter cost and now adorning his almost Summer dudes.

One of the pieces I had lent them to put on display was a quilted bag made by my friend, Carla.  I contacted Carla after doing so to ask her for some of her new Business Cards that I could ask be displayed with her creation.  Well I not only received Business Cards from Carla in the mail today, it also included some "happy mail" for me too.

An Early Spring Predicted

I was out the door before 6:40 am this morning, heading on down to Wiarton's Bluewater Park on Colpoy's Bay, as this morning was the beginning of Ground Hog Day and a Prediction was to be made at exactly 8:07 am.  

Cold? it was beyond cold with winds creating -28*C temps, the reason there is such few photos as soon as I had left the Pavilion my camera froze up.  The two photos, other then the one of me all bundled up, had been taken with my iphone before I left for home before I couldn't move any longer.

An amazing Breakfast sandwich of Peameal/Cheese on a Bun with Tim Horton's Coffee had been sponsored by our local Foodland, Caframo and Tim Hortons.  The Sponsors are unbelievable within our small Community, as are the people who Volunteer many hours.

I even sighted the Town Crier and his apprentice not long after I had arrived on scene.

Wiarton Willie was beyond himself "tickled pink" with his prediction of an early Spring ! as you can tell by his charming *smile*.

Unfortunately the Fireworks schedule for 7 am had to be cancelled due to the high winds.  I had wished I could have stayed however after taking my one glove off to take the two photos with my iphone my hand had felt like it would never thaw once back in my glove.  I do not take to vicious cold too kindly, or should I say my body does not accept it too well.

It was another great Wiarton Willie Festival this Year, with 2016 being its 60th Year !!! can you imagine this Festival has been running for 60 Years????

It has been a long day and it is no surprise I am tired.  Rob is going to do all the Aussie chores this evening for me so I can take it easy since I have been going through revolving door with Puppy meals/cleaning and Adult Aussies out & in all day long, Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard.

A Puppy & A Two Walk Day

I was soooo tired this morning.  I was actually having a very rare wonderful sleep when the phone rang around 10 pm last night.  It was my Rob with "oh sorry were you sleeping".  Back to sleep I went when the phone rang at 11:30 pm, it being my Rob AGAIN with a "could you go do this for me?".  I got back home after 12:30 am, and back asleep when my Rob came home after 1:30 am waking me up for the 3rd time.

Yes things do happen in threes.

Lexus could not break her usual let's bark at 5:30 am, even though she doesn't go out until 6 or shortly after. Oh boy I was tired, but had to get a move on since people were going to be starting to arrive around 9:00 am.

Once all the Aussies were looked after first thing, and I picked up the "chunks" in the way of some housework, I gave the Extraordinary 8 a good breakfast then got them all cleaned out before my BFF, Shannon arrived with her two grown boys, Brad & Jordan.

I had not seen Shannon for almost 20 years, and we have been friends since 15 years old, so I was rather excited.  When they arrived I was thrilled !!!  unfortunately we never had much time together as they had barely been here 1/2 hour when people arrived to see their pup about 10:00 pm.  Shannon was here visiting her Mom and Dad, so she had to be off to see them.  Next visit we will make a day of it for sure.

The new puppy owners had traveled over 3 1/2 hours to see their puppy, and stayed for about an hour and a half.  Just before they left my Niece Joanne arrived to bring Ty along so they could see the puppies.  Ty had a blast with each and every puppy before we headed downtown for a look around and a bite of lunch.

I don't think Ty wanted to leave our house.  Once downtown we could not help but notice the local OPP detachment was doing a Prescription Drug Drop-off Day, what a great idea.  I am pretty sure you can also dispose of old prescriptions at your Pharmacy or Doctor's office as well.

Joanne, Ty and I had a good lunch at Subway and a really good walk downtown.  They left back for home after 1 pm I am thinking.

Once home again I felt myself dropping off I was so tired, however I forced myself to call my neighbour and friend, Pari, to go downtown with me as I needed a tomato to go along with our dinner this evening.  We got down there and went for a really really big walk.  Other then the wind being a bit on the cool side it has been a beautiful sunny day !!!

So beautiful in fact that Wiarton Willie was out in his house rolling around in the fresh hay that had been laid down in there for him.  I even got a bit of a smile from him.

When I got home, after finally getting some tomato, I had to get going on making our Dinner.

Oh yum it really hit the spot.  Not too overpowering on the heat, with the coolness of the lettuce and tomato balancing it all out.

Just as I was about to put our Dinner in the Oven I had a phone call about our two remaining puppies.  They were interested in the last Red Tri Female.

We will know by noon hour tomorrow whether or not this little sweetheart will be going off to a new Forever Home in Thunder Bay in 3 weeks time.

Isn't she adorable, and perfectly marked with her colouring I might add.  This would mean that there would be one perfectly marked Black Tri Male looking for a Forever Home.  Wish him luck as he is a doll, and if I don't watch it I know my girlfriend Shannon might steal him away from us.

I was also pleased to have found a wheelchair today in good condition and reasonably priced for my friend and her husband who had been looking for one.  Isn't helping people a "good" feeling?  I think it is.

The story of my Life is that I am always tired, especially with a puppy & a two walk day behind me, Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard.

Short & Sweet

I was up and at it with a plan in my head.  Have I not learned by now not to make plans, apparently not ?  I was all geared up to get tons of stuff done today, however other plans had been made for me, but I did get  my bed made.

I had to "cover" Wiarton for our Crabby Cabbie driver today.  Really it wasn't busy, it is just you think you can start something and you might get a call in the middle of it.

I had nicely gotten settled into organizing the bookwork that needs done and entered on the book by the end of this Month, and get a Chicken broth simmering on the stove top before I got a call.

 When I had returned from the Out-of-Town call, I took advantage of being downtown Wiarton to make some personal calls to drop off a few Crabby Cabbie cards to a couple of places.  While I was down at the Wiarton Chamber Office, I was thrilled Wiarton Willie had been out having his breakfast.

He truly is a cute little guy, and really not too shy whatsoever.  There had been about 5 people milling around taking pictures.  He was so busy eating corn and carrots he could have cared less.

There had also been more progress done on beautiful home located on the South Hill of Wiarton.  Definitely not a job for someone like myself who is scared of heights.  Thanks to the Wiarton Echo for the following article on this home:

Late this afternoon when Rob had returned home, he went out into the garden with me to pick some more tomatoes, as there is rain in the forecast for the next few upcoming days.  I am hoping once I get the Crabby Cabbie books done I will find time to do down some Stewed Tomatoes for this upcoming Winter.  I never had canned Stewed Tomatoes left from year to year, as I love using them in sauces, soups and stews.

Come Please Mr. Sandman

It has truly been one very long day, as I have been awake and up since before 3:00 am.  Sleep has been robbed from me once again, but hopefully I am feeling "dead" enough on my feet after this day I will have naught another date with Mr Insomnia this night.  Come please Mr. Sandman.

When it was finally light enough Buddy and I went around the property for our morning walk, as you can tell by our tracks through the frost covered grass.  The Sun had risen in the East, kissing the Sunflower Beacons with their now heavy heads.

The "Crabby Cabbie" also got off to a start early this day, also being kissed by the early morning Sun.

After a bit of running here and there this morning, I stopped around to our friends place.

My friend, Lisa, had just purchased her nephew's vehicle, discovering quite the pile of change underneath the driver's seat.  While I was there she opened the back door of the passenger's side of the vehicle to find a whole bag of change.  Pay dirt baby !!!  

Lisa sent me a text earlier this evening to let me know the count of "found" money had totaled $66.00.  Not a bad little haul for a newly acquired vehicle.  I am lucky if I have ever found a quarter in any I have previously purchased, as I am certain their owners when through them with a fine tooth comb before I was.

Just before lunch time I had deposited a basket off to my Auntie and Uncle's home.  I had to take photos to prove I was "good to my word" and had not forgotten my promise.  My poor tired brain is grateful for my photos to jog the memory cells most days.

Unfortunately Rob and I made another "Crabby Cabbie" business trip on down the line this afternoon.  This will be the 4th within a week.  It gets to be quite tiring at times, especially if these trips turn out to be "uneventful", as this day was.  The bonus is we do get to spend time together, however tired we both might be.  And look there, it never ceases to amaze me how a tiny little Ladybug can travel so well on a fast moving vehicle?  hmmm, why is that ?

The one time I was at Wiarton Willie's home this Summer, he was out and I did NOT have my camera with me .... oh man what "poopy" luck.  Speaking off poopy, Rob sent off an email this evening to Uncle Basil, the "smartest man in Port Elgin", so he makes claim to, with an attachment of Uncle's vehicle along with it.  It was as follows:

Based on the condition of Uncle's little car today, Rob thinks that a $100.00 offer for his vehicle is more then fair considering the birds do not even have much respect for it .  Poop, poop, poop ...

I have a very busy couple of days ahead of me trying to prepare for this upcoming Thanksgiving Weekend. I get in such a dither I hardly know where to begin. It will be what it will be, and what will get done will get done. 

I really think I am either busier, slower, or just way much older now that I can't seem to keep caught up with all I used to do. This reality, or one of them or any combination, drives me right "around the bend" most days, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

Two Days Before ...

Apparently we are to have more rain and Thunderstorms again by Wednesday, so two days before .... 

Rob was up and out the door on a long haul Crabby Cabbie run by 6 am.  I got up by 7 am to get my Aussies looked after, then onto updating the Wiarton and Crabby Cabbie Facebook pages (*click* on the Wiarton & Crabby Cabbie links, as we could use some more Facebook fans, if you are so inclined).

Two coffees later I got the bed done, put a load of laundry in the washer, did a Crabby Cabbie fare, and got on with my day.

The corner where the Woodstove is has been bugging me for some time.  I decided the million other things needing done could wait while I got going on this corner.  Not only was it vacuumed, dusted and washed down, the Patio Windows also got washed, as that had been also been bugging me for some time.  And besides should they not be clean before another rainfall mucks them up again on the outside?  This was quite time consuming, but I got 'r done.

Poor Bandit is having another bad run in with Mites again.  It started this time last year and took me over a month to figure out what was going on, and that it had not been "Hot Spot", nor "Fleas".  Since Rob was coming back home via our Vet in Mildmay this morning, I called to arrange for him to pickup up some Revolution for our Bandit boy.

Yes we have just caught the problem here on Bandit's back before it has gotten any further.  Did I hear you say Medicine, Mom?  Yes Bandit it is coming your way ...

I finally managed to get the load of laundry hung out on the line.  I am taking advantage of the good weather as long as I am able.  I also was out in the Veggie Garden.  Other then for the Beets, it has been a *sad* Year for the garden, as the tomatoes have not been ripening as they should.  Then there is the case of the Rooster with his wheelbarrow of Hens & Chicks ... the wheelbarrow fell apart, and the head of the Rooster was soon to follow, *sad* indeed.

On one of the "wee" breaks I managed for myself today, I headed on over to Wiarton's Facebook page to see this amazing photo of Wiarton Willie.  My Wiarton Facebook page "Partner in Crime" was able to coax Wiarton Willie out of his den this morning with grapes and then get this shot with her Cell phone.  What a great shot it is !

My Rob decided to stay home after he had arrived back home from his run this morning.  Not that he did not have lots to do.

Rob was hard at it with a very deep cleaning of the last Van he had acquired.  Yes Dad, I can sit in here as I bought this one for you too, did I not?, says our Bandit boy.

While Rob was cleaning away, I also got at our personal Van.  Another thing that had been bugging me that needed done was it needing cleaned out.  Rob had the Shop Vac out for me so I could get it all vacuumed and dusted out.  Another job well done !!!

We also had to make a trip downtown Wiarton.  Me to go pickup up a couple of cards and go to the Bank, and Rob for a trip into Sadler's Hardware Store.  By the time we arrived back home it was time for me to think about getting our Dinner started.

Remember those "extra" large beets in the photo above?  I was thinking those would take at least a good hour to cook.  I really did not want to wait over an hour for 2 beets to cook, so I thought ...

Break out the Pressure Cooker, as that is why I had bought it to cook "quick" when need be.  I was tickled pink that those super large beets took less then 1/2 hour to cook up to perfection.  By the time I had put together the Chicken Kabobs with Rob had grilling them, the Beets had been ready too.

My plate was filled with lots of Colour this evening.  Rob had a huge piece of fish he had brought home from his lunch yesterday.  It was full of nice thick white fish that he enjoyed.

Even though there are still a Million other things to be done, I was quite pleased at all we had accomplished this day, two days before .... more rain.  I even had time out of my day to admire the beautiful Sunflowers in our garden.

Our boy, Paul, had been over at our friend's Bob and Tim's this evening.  There are lots of change going on over at their home in New Dundee.  I haven't been there since Spring, but with technology of Cell Phones and Data Plans, Paul was able to take photos and email them  to me from his Cell Phone.

A new front door was installed last week.  What a beauty !  And there is a Pool going in the backyard, with installation having just begun the other day.  The Pool? a long time dream Bob has had that is finally coming true for him.

Tomorrow?  I will have to wait to see what that brings me, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

I am so excited today, as I am hosting a very "first to me" Ontario Blogger's Day, this very day right NOW !!!

In the past almost two years I have been blogging my every day journal I have learned so very MUCH, from having the privilege of reading posts put out by other fellow bloggers from all over the World.

Blogging for me has really opened up the World, with meeting so many wonderful new friends along the way.  This day I decided I would like to recognize Ontario Bloggers, as myself, who are scattered about this Province I have lived my whole life in.  Before I introduce those who have joined me here this day, let me tell you a little more about where I live, even though most of you know it is "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".
