Fashion Show And A Church Luncheon !

Last night I had plans to go out for the Evening.  Really this rarely ever happens that I go out on the Town for a night !  My friend, Lisa, had donated a few of her Yard Works Garden Ornaments to the Wiarton Optimist Club's very first Spring Event Fashion Show by Josie's of Wiarton.  In turn they had given her a complimentary ticket.  Lisa could not attend, and so kindly gave me her ticket. 

I had been tired, and had second thoughts about going.  I "made myself go", since I needed to step out of my same old, same old routine.  Besides Rob was home and he would look after our Aussie gang in my absence, which encouraged me to go even more.

I was not disappointed I went.  

"Walking in through the front door of The Wiarton Decor Center I was greeted by a couple of familiar faces.  There were all kinds of lovely door prized on display, donated by local businesses, a two piece band, my friend and Optimist Member, Gayle, acting as MC, with lovely Joyce Lynn acting as Vanna White.  Food?  it was an amazing selection.  See those little mini cheesecakes on the plate? my friend, Lynn, made those."

"There was a license bar with Tracey and Lynn wo-manning it and doing a great job of making everyone happy.  Joyce Lynn was having a great time making the door prize winners very happy by delivering them their prizes.  Can you believe it? I won a lovely lamp locally made by Caframo ! I was really glad after winning this that I had decided to go after all.  Besides that I was sitting with my friend Anita Dejong and her two sweet daughters, along with another friend, Nancy."

"There had even been two male models strutting off their stuff."

Then came the parade of lovely women ....

"The finale' was lead by Josie herself ... everyone was having a wonderful time."

I will definitely plan on going should the Wiarton Optimist Club have another Spring Event Fashion Show next year.  It was well worth the $25.00, especially when Josie's of Wiarton gave everyone attending a $20.00 gift certificate for her store ... a Win Win situation it was.  A huge applause to everyone who was involved as it was a "HIT SPRING EVENT" for Wiarton !!!

Today I was meeting up with my friend, Sharon, who was going with me to the Luncheon put on by my Auntie's Church in Port Elgin.

"We had nicely settled with my Cousin Vi, her husband, Ross, and their Grandson, when who show up by none other then MY "Crabby Cabbie" ... Jeez that boy couldn't miss out a chance of a homemade luncheon, or Cherry Cheese Cake !!!"

"Homemade Soup, choice of sandwich, and cheesecake, along with coffee or tea for a total of $7.00; really where can you have all of that goodness for that price?"

Sharon was kind enough to stop for me to make a couple of errands on our way home.  She even did a U-turn when both our eyes caught this sight in a field we were passing by ...

"Really isn't that the sweetest little Mini horse foal you have ever seen?"

Once Sharon had dropped me off back at my vehicle, I made one more stop then headed home as quick as I could, as by this time it was 3 pm.  YIKES !  my gang would all have their legs crossed I was sure.  They were all fine when I did make it home, but then I was gone again ...

I had gathered together donations from local Southampton and Port Elgin businesses for the Silent Auction tomorrow.   These businesses were very generous, so there will be some pretty nice items there to bid on.  Anyhow I had to go back out to deliver them to organizers Tim and Sarah of the Green Door Cafe in Wiarton.

"This was the donation my friend, Lisa of Yard Works, and myself and My Checkerboard Aussies donated for the Silent Auction.  Thanks Lisa for going in on this with me, as well as making and providing it."

I finally did make it back home to stay, but it  had been 6 pm by the time that happened.   While Rob looked after the gang for me, I got our Dinner of a baked Chicken Breast and Romaine Side salad ready.

YIKES ! it is after 8 pm already, no wonder I am tired.  Grammar, or spelling errs? sorry but I am all in but for my Shirt tail, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard."

Get The Red Marker and Calendars Out AGAIN !

Okay tonight I must remember to drink a mug of warm milk and pure cocoa, as I forgot again last night and was awake almost the whole dang evening.  I am looking forward to my bed tonight !

To add "insult to injury" Rob just got down to work and called back home.  His "Crabby Cabbie" vehicle died and would not start .... oh happy days again for us !  NOT.

Thank goodness our driver came out to cover for him while he had his friend tow it back home to Wiarton to our Mechanics, who in turn accommodated him right away.  Thank goodness for good friends I say.  They found out the fuel pump was done.  Our usual spot didn't have one in stock, however we were fortunate enough to get a used one at a local Wreckers.

By the time I went to pick Rob up from the mechanics, go get the part, drop back to the mechanics, stop downtown on two errands, it had already been lunch time when we got back home.  So much for my plans today.

The "Crabby Cabbie" vehicle was fixed and ready to roll by 1 pm.  My Rob headed on back down the highway to pick it up and drop off our "backup vehicle", as it is in need of a new steering column; oh woe is me.  Really how can a guy make any money when Mr. Murphy keeps throwing wrenches into his vehicles for the past 4 months.  Give me a break !!! as we are in dire need of one at this point.  

Owning your own Business is highly overrated.

Once Rob did leave I did manage to get the one thing that had been bugging me.  The stairs and landing at the front door got scrubbed.  Not that they will stay that way long with rain in the forecast and Mr. Mucky feet Bandit in and out all day long, but at least in my mind I know they were done.

I am going to be trying out a "new to me" Penne Tuna Casserole tonight if Rob ever arrives back home for Dinner.  I will update about that tomorrow.

I am confident I have done my part in supporting our Communities for the Month of April.  Jeez April is one busy Month, as you can probably tell with all those Red Marker dates circled on your Calender, right ???

Holy Moly, it is only 3 PM and I am done posting for this day.  I have to get going as there is a couple Aussies requesting my attention at the moment, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

YIKES ! A Lost Day.

I woke up this morning with NO MIGRAINE !!!  The skies had opened wide with torrents of rain coming from them.  This was also a break through for my migraine thank goodness.

I had gone to bed at 7 pm last night, was asleep by 8 pm, and never got up until 6:30 am this morning.   That was certainly amazing for me.  I was really sick yesterday and so thankful that is over with for the time being.

I am so behind, again, it isn't funny. What else is new in my Life other then being behind constantly?

Of course I had to stand out in the torrents of rain this morning with "others" who didn't seem miffed by it whatsoever.  Oh to have a dog's life.  Once I did get motivated enough I got myself to the Wiarton Service Canada Office as I needed to get a copy of my Driver's Abstract to include with our "Crabby Cabbie" taxi renewal.  Phew .... I am happy to report it is squeaky clean thank goodness, so I am good to go.

I then had to drop of something downtown.  When I popped in to say hello to my friend, I had been talking about something or another and somebody had said, "but this is Thursday".  My face fell to the floor I am certain .... YIKES !  I lost a day, I could well not afford to loose.  Dang, dang, and triple dang it all, I had plans for that day and now it is gone ????

Once I got home I then realized Thursdays Rob does not come home for Dinner.  My Wednesday Dinner plans were ruined, I say, "ruined" !!!, I say !!!  I was terribly disappointed all over again.  I suppose I will be trying out a new recipe for Dinner all by myself.  What a drag that will be with my best ever Guinea Pig, who I do love dearly, MIA !!!

I am *sad* but I have to use the Pork Tenderloin I had taken out to defrost to make Rosemary-Crusted Pork Tenderloin along with a side salad of Romaine and Red Onion. Dinner all by myself (again) ... *sad*sad*sad*.

Regardless I had to get what I had planned to do yesterday going somewhat today.

"I had to get going on making some Homemade Laundry Detergent as I was right out.  I had dated the first batch I had made Sept 1st, with it lasting up until 2 weeks ago.  I was impressed.  Initially the Borax, Arm & Hammer, 2 x Sunlight bar soap, and Tea Tree Essential Oil cost me $24.67.  Today I used up the last bar of Sunlight Soap, but have plenty of everything else left for many more future batches."

"This Homemade Laundry Detergent is so easy to make.  Grate 1 bar of Sunlight Soap, add to pot of 3 cups hot water on stove top.  Mix until soap has melted; add 1/3 cup each of Borax and Arm & Hammer powders.  Stir to mix well until dissolved, then add 8 to 12 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil.  Pour into large clean plastic bucket or pail stirring in 2 cups of boiling water, then stirring in 12 cups of cold water.  Mix well.  Cover and store until ready to use at approx. 1/2 cup per load."

Yes I use this Homemade Laundry Detergent in my HE washer with no problem thus far since last September.

"With the on and off all day torrential rains we have been getting, we now have our own personal lakes and ponds on our property.  Way back at the bush line the mist is still rising from the snow there still melting from the warm air hitting it."

"Yesterday I had noticed our Tree Swallows had returned and were looking for the bird house to nest in.  It had blown of it's post this past Winter, so Rob secured it on again last night.  I hope they return as I love watching them from year to year..  The Red-Winged Blackbirds were out feeding in great numbers, as well as Starlings (I sure hope that is a Starling pictured) seeking materials for nest making."

Oh man the rain is coming down in buckets again with lighting and thunder.  Ha ! Bandit is scared of thunder so you can be guaranteed he is right below my feet.  Wish me luck there is a break in the rain so I can get all the gang in, out and about at least two more times before bedtime, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

Mark Those April Calendars !

My morning was full of the usual Aussie routine and first thing household chores before I headed out the door with our "Checkerboard Aussies" Fabulous Four puppy, Lunette, in tow.  We were off to visit the Home and Community Day Away Program, located at Wiarton's Gateway Haven's Nursing Home.

This is also the home where my Mother resides, so I was hoping I would find the time for I and Lunette to see her as well.  As I made my way towards the Day Away Program's room, we were stopped by a few people who were in "awe" of little Miss Lunette.  We had actually even said hello to the gal who does the hairdressing for the residents.  I couldn't believe it when Mom showed up as it was time for her to almost get her hair done as she does so every week.

"Mom even had time before her appointment to have herself a puppy cuddle."

Once I had said my Good-byes to Mom, also assuring her I was working on getting her a new pair of sandals (noted she was walking on her own again after her fall last week, no longer needing a wheelchair, which was great to see), we were off down the hallway to see the Day Away people.

All the ladies and gentlemen loved seeing little Lunette, as did the staff members.  Staff member, Wanda, took her around to each person so they all got to have themselves a "pet" of Lunette's soft fur.  We stayed for about 1/2 hour or so before we took our leave to head back home.  I have to say I had been pretty impressed with Lunette as she never even had herself one "accident" needing papertoweling while we were there.

Really our visit all went rather well with Lunette being very well behaved, as there was some "wearing her out" going on before we had went as you can see ....

"First out with Daddy Bandit, who was dodging Lunette every which way he could, finally with a look "did I loose her?"

Then we brought out the fun Mama.

"Lexus always has loved playing with her pups.  After a bit of romping with Mama Lexus that put a bit of wear and tear on our little gal."

Once Lunette and I had returned home it wasn't much long after we had ourselves some visitors, which can be read about HERE.  The remainder was the day was spent doing not much other then a wee bit of puttering, with nothing too overtaxing.

Time to Mark Those April Calendars, and Spread the Word !  in support of the Communities.  If we do not support our Communities ourselves, how can we expect others to come in to our Communities to show us their support.  Let us put our best foot forward first.

This is an email I received from Tess at the Wiarton Salvation Army offices:

Greetings dear Cindy,

I am writing to you to let you know of two events we are working on to help provide funds to needy kids so they may go to camp.

The first is a BBQ at the end of April. On Saturday the 27th we will be at St. John's United church at noon until 2 PM. with a whole host of fun activities for kids, and of course food. We have baked goods, hot-dogs, hamburgers, juice and pop. A table of surprise items, a rummage table, a bubble area (bubble castle), duck pond, fishing hole and face painting to keep them entertained. All are welcome to attend, even the big kids.  Please come and buy and support our local children.

The second is a walk-a-thon we have planned out at Mary's farm on May 25th. The plan is to walk from the Farm down to Bass Lake and back. Food will be available to walkers after. And it is a blessing to be able to visit the many animals kept there. Horseback riding is  popular and volleyball games always seem to pop up.  Anyone wishing to donate to the Walk-a-thon should contact Tess at 519-534-0353.

More Wiarton Willie Fun

Thank you for all the well wishes on my migraine getting better.  Headaches and migraines are something I have lived with all of my life.  With my neck issues I really do not think I will ever be without them.  There are worse problems in this World, so some of these things some of us learn to live with.

Lots more went on with the boys and I yesterday at the Wiarton Willie Festivities.  The Wiarton Optimist Club put on a Fun Day for Children from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.  What a wonderful gesture on behalf of the Club and those businesses who sponsored this event for the Children.  A very BIG Thank you !!!

After all the fun on the big "snowbank" we headed on inside of the Big Tent.

"First off the boys entered into a draw to "guess" how many jellybeans were in the jar, and got themselves each a bag to collect goodies along the way."

"Here we are with Karen of Karen't Creations Scrapbooking in Wiarton, who was taking family photos as her part of giving back to the Community.  Thanks Karen, we love the photo."

"This is where it all began "putting them to work", and what fun they had with a hammer and nails."

"Much warmer fishing in under the Big Tent, and the prizes were not one big slimy."

"Indoor golfing also is the way to go ... put put put."

"The Bruce County Library Team was there from the Wiarton Library.  What fun there was first by making pictures, then some pretty awesome bookmarks."

"Hey there is Stu Paterson !  Stu won the 2012 Salmon Spectacular with the largest Trout entry.  Here they are with Handmade Bird Feeders they were handing out to families along with a bag of bird feed."

One-hundred-twenty Grey Bruce youngsters have new bird

feeders thanks to a co-operative effort by two regional conservation clubs.

Volunteers from the Sydenham and Bruce Peninsula Sportsmen’s Associations

handed out the feeders at the Kids Day Party in the Big Tent, at the 2013 Wiarton Willie Festival.

Children 12 and under were happy to receive the feeders which were built by club members.

Included were 2-pound black oiled sunflower seed packs donated by Doug Gilkinson and staff at Bayshore Country Feeds in Owen Sound.

The feeder project is designed to encourage young people to learn about, respect and appreciate, nature and conservation. The giveaway included pamphlets on several Birds common to Grey-Bruce.

Anglers and hunters are the best conservationists. These two community

Clubs lead the way in this part of Ontario, helping to preserve and protect fish and wildlife. Both Bruce Peninsula and Sydenham club members, go out of their way to encourage young people to appreciate the outdoors, and try to help them understand the magic that nature has to offer.

Thanks Stu.  I am pleased to say our Grandsons, Aiden and Connor were most fortunate  recipients of a Bird Feeder thanks to these wonderful organizations and volunteers.

Today was a pretty good day, as I did wake up without the migraine so that was good in itself.  I did manage to change our bedding, do one load of laundry up to hang on the clothes horses to dry in front of the wood stove, and sweep up at least one extra dog off the floor.  

I also managed to get in some "Fabulous Four" Checkerboard Aussie puppy time.  I will post their most recent photo here, but from here on in any puppy updates and photos can be found on the "Checkerboard Aussie" blog by going HERE.

"From top to bottom:  Blue Merle Female; Black Tri Male; Red Tri Female; Red Merle Female.  All healthy and noisy at less then 24 hours old.  Mama Lexus is doing just fine.  Three have Forever Homes, and the Red Tri Female should be hearing about a possible Forever Home this evening."

"Supper was amazing ... a Peameal Roast done in the Slow Cooker, served up with boiled Red Cabbage and white potatoes."

It was a good day, however I am looking forward to another early night, as both Rob and I are feeling pretty weary this evening, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

A Shopping Snow Day

After a long day yesterday it was nice to come home to check my email to find an attachment that made me *smile* from ear to ear.

"Here are two of my most favourite Rip Tail Snorter boys, Aiden & Connor."

It is really nice to have the technology we do that our Son, Paul, can snap a photo with his phone and send these moments off to me via email.  Not only did I get this photo yesterday, I got one from my Niece Joanne too ...

"Joanne had made a Winter Decor  for outside her house using a Pair of Skates she had purchased at the Thrift Store for $2.00, painting them "red", re-lacing them and tucking in some cute decor she had gotten from the Dollar Store.  What a great idea with a cost of way less then $10.00.  Aren't they cute and befitting of the Season?"

When I spoke to Joanne this morning, she had told me how nice they had looked with the snow fallen on them.  Just the "effect" she was going for I am sure.

I pretty much did absolutely nothing at all today in the way of what needs done around the house.  The only thing done was Rob driving us into Owen Sound as I needed to get some things at the Bulk Barn and stock up with some items from No Frills.  Lots of savings when going to the Big Box stores to stock up.  No Frills had Chocolate Chips and Marshmallows for $1.50/bag, and Maxwell House Coffee at $3.00 a jar, so those items were large savings themselves, never mind the other great saving items we had also gotten.

I had won a beautiful scarf, Handmade by the lovely Lena over at Frugal & Thankful, last Spring.  Today being the snowy cold day it was, I thought what better time to wear my new scarf.

"I had my Rob take the photos of me modeling it, can you tell?  I did hear about it as I wasn't suppose to be moving when I had .... oops."

"Off we went on our way to Owen Sound.  Our first real snowfall to actually speak of so far this Year."

First we went to the far side of Owen Sound to the Bulk Barn.  What a nice surprise we had when we were doing our shop there, as we ran in to my friend Toni, with an "i", picking up a few items for Christmas goodie baking herself.  I love running into friends I don't get to see often on a regular basis, don't you?

Next stop was the Dollar Store where I picked up all I "think" I will need to make a Wreath when a few of us gals from Cindy's Recipe Exchange get together for a Cookbook Swap next Sunday at Abby Miners' place over at Miners' Maple Products.  I am so excited for next Sunday to arrive, but not wishing the time away as I have much to do before next Sunday rolls around.

Then we hit the No Frills store coming away after spending $116.00.  Lots of things I won't have to worry about for awhile, as I took advantage of the sales to stock our pantry while there.  We don't do weekly shops in Owen Sound with Rob's work schedule, pretty much usually only an "on need basis" when we do drive over there.

Today had been "a shopping snow day" for us.

"Really we did pretty good with what we spent and what we got.  I think other then the necessities of bread and milk, or fresh veggies when required our pantry is looking really good for the Winter months ahead."

When in at the Dollar Store I had picked up these two characters for $2.00 each.  I know what I will be filling them with goodies for a certain two boys I just happen to know.

"I really lucked in as these were the only two left on the shelf.  Are they not adorable?"

By the time we got back to Wiarton, Rob and I were both tired and hungry.  We stopped in at our local Subway Store to have us each a Sub for our lunch.  We got home to get everything away, look after our Aussie needs then both passed out for a couple of hours .... both of us were "beat".

The weather has really been playing havoc on my Fibromyalgia, with me feeling like all my muscles from head to toe were going to "pop" out of my skin.  Pain wears a person down more then I would like to imagine or would ever want to have happen.  Tylenol 2 and Ibuprofen were the order of the day with rest.  I resent feeling like this, as I look around to see how much I could be doing ... *sigh* it won't go anywhere and will be always there waiting for me, this I do know.

"If nobody else likes the snow, there is never any fear that any one of our "Checkerboard Aussies" won't ... every one of them LOVE the snow, as you can tell by Miss Lexus here !"

My friend, Lynn, is part of the Wiarton Optimist Club.  Yesterday she had posted to her Facebook page that she is doing a "fundraiser" on the behalf of raising money to go towards the Basketball Court for our local children.  This is what I have posted to my Facebook page, after reading Lynn's post:

SHOUT OUT TO ALL MY "Crochet" Friends please. My friend, Lynn Wright, who is with the Wiarton Optimist Club is doing a fundraiser and is looking some people for Crochet participation! Here is Lynn's deal: 

I'd like to do a fundraiser for our Optimist club. We support a lot of youth functions in our area. We are currently working on a basketball court and should have it completed by spring. We have also paid to send kids who can't afford it otherwise, for them to go to a summer camp, and we put on a family fun day once a year that is absolutely free for kids to attend. I'm thinking if anyone would like to donate a granny square , lets go with 4 x 4 in size, regular worsted yarn, then I can join them all together and use it as a raffle at our next event. If anyone would like to help with this please send your square to:

Should any of my "Crochet" readers love to contribute to this cause, I would appreciate it, as would Lynn, and the Wiarton Optimist Club.  If you do decide to participate, could you please include a note you are a reader of my blog, as I have asked Lynn to let me know should she receive any from you out there, so we can photograph and post about how it is all coming together.  I am really very excited about this !  A couple of my Relatives have already committed themselves to a "Granny Square", as has my Sister Donna, who is going to be mailing two off to Lynn, one being on my half of course *smile*.  Thank you to all in advance to who that partake in this "Fundraiser".  I do LOVE giving back whenever I am able, as I am sure most people do.

Other then being set back more then usual today, it has been nice to have my husband home for a "whole" day, even though nothing at home got accomplished.  On that note, I think I will spend some time with him, while he relaxes a bit by watching some of his favourite TV, which would be pretty much anything but Sports (lucky me).

Tomorrow will be another day, and another day means anything that didn't get done today has a "chance" of getting done then, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".
