Thanks everyone who participated and joined it !  I for one thoroughly enjoyed myself by dropping around to visit everyone's blog posts and reading all the "wicked" comments everyone left.  It was nice to see all the SHOUT OUTS and support of each other.  I am already looking forward to the next one, with hopefully seeing everyone again and meeting more new Ontario Bloggers along the way.

As everyone knows after such a great party we all have to return to reality, now don't we?   That's okay as I have had some fun reality the past few days that I really have no complaints about.  Let's see now where did reality set back in ....

"Tuesday night before the party was pretty "special".  Once I returned home from the "Bruce County "Walkabout" I put a lovely boneless Lamb Shoulder Roast into the Oven for my Rob and I.  I know I have never mentioned before how much I LOVE ME SOME LAMB ... my mouth is still watering remembering how good it was."

This lamb had not been from New Zealand, nor Australia, it was Ontario Spring Lamb purchased right in my own backyard from Dejong Acres Farm.  With Spring approaching at a steady pace, give them a call to place your order...how to do so? just *click* on their name which will take you right on over to their website.  Enjoy the Tour.

Wednesday morning brought with it the beginning of a new VON SMART Exercise Program Session.  Not only had a new session begun, we also had a new location to go along with it.

"The Wiarton VON SMART Exercise Program now takes place at the upstairs of the Wiarton Community Centre.  It is so roomy and bright, really making you want to get moving and fit ! "

Throughout part of the exercise program one of my fellow volunteers had asked if anyone had made any New Year's Resolutions.  I had answered that mine was to be "kinder".  She in turn said, "Cindy, how could I possibly be kinder then you already are".  That made my heart "sing".  Thanks Cathy, how so very kind of you to say such a wonderful thing.

The remainder of my Wednesday had been spent ... I think preparing for the Ontario Blogger's Day???

"I do know for a fact I made Rob and myself, my "healthy" version of Hamburger helper.  The Hamburger Helper in the box is just plain "GROSS" !  with me trying to wean Rob off of it (I sure don't buy it, so guess who does?)  This version is just as easy with some browned lean ground beef and the preparation of a few fresh vegetables you will be well on your way  to .... "

This takes me up to Thursday.  Everyone knows I was having myself  a PARTEEEEEH on Thursday.

Where was I? oh yes I am here and here now would be Friday.

"Everyone knows my "Crabby Cabbie" has been hanging out with the VON Piggy for Pennies, don't they?

"Well to date between The "Crabby Cabbie" and the "VON Piggy for Pennies" they have raised all this for Grey-Bruce VON.  Yes that scale reads "forty-two" pounds !  That sure is a lot of pennies."

It would take ME "forever" to roll up all those pennies, so I had to enlist myself some help. 

"I had to import the help all the way from YASS, NSW !!!  Can you believe that ????  Thank goodness I didn't have to wait too long for him to get here, since he is visiting just over at the other side of Colpoy's Bay from me."

"Our young visiting friend, Nathan, was so kind enough to come spend the day to help me with the rolling of the Pennies for VON."

"Bandit was thrilled he had a new friend.  Now would you think this could be classified as the "height" of nosiness?  Bandit almost could have jumped right into my camera getting himself that close."

Nathan and I never managed to get all the pennies rolled, but I would think we got more then half of them done.  A very good "dent" in the situation this is for certain.  We had a wonderful time visiting as we did this together, also enjoying a great lunch of Homemade Chicken Vegetable Soup along with a Grilled Cheese Sandwich.  I was pleased Nathan enjoyed my Homemade Soup as much as he did to have himself seconds.

Not too long after lunch, Nathan was collected by my young friend, Ashley, gone back to her home where he has been visiting.   I carried on with my day by doing up the dishes, being in and out in some rather unruly cold snowy weather with the "Checkerboard Aussies", and then spent some time trying to figure out what to do about this week's challenge from ....

Decluttering Challenge: Choose a closet, any closet, and clean it out!! Pick 2 closets if you're feeling really energetic & determined!! Take before & after photos so you can awe & inspire everyone else participating in my challenges as well! ;) lol!

Financial Challenge: Give. Find a way in your budget to "give" financially somehow... It doesn't have to be grand, you don't have to go hungry. I just want you to go that 'extra mile' for someone else. Buy a coffee for the person in line behind you at the coffee shop, hand a $5.00 bill to a homeless person on the way to work, throw a little extra into the collection plate at church, toss your change into the charity box in front of the register at the grocery store, etc... simply give.

I thought to myself I have been so busy this week, with yet another busy week ahead of me, how am I going to swing this?  I needed to somehow fit it in, so I put the "pedal to the metal" by applying some pressure to myself  ....

"I emptied out the whole bathroom closet this afternoon, piling it into the one spare bedroom.  Tomorrow morning I will get the laundry started then clean the closet from top to bottom, then force myself to begin sorting and decluttering everything that had been in it before putting only what is required back in."

Wish me stamina and luck, as for some reason I think I am going to be needing LOTS of both by tomorrow.

I am feeling pretty tired at the moment.  Guess I just can't party like I used to, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

Ontario Bloggers DAY !!!

I am so excited today, as I am hosting a very "first to me" Ontario Blogger's Day, this very day right NOW !!!

In the past almost two years I have been blogging my every day journal I have learned so very MUCH, from having the privilege of reading posts put out by other fellow bloggers from all over the World.

Blogging for me has really opened up the World, with meeting so many wonderful new friends along the way.  This day I decided I would like to recognize Ontario Bloggers, as myself, who are scattered about this Province I have lived my whole life in.  Before I introduce those who have joined me here this day, let me tell you a little more about where I live, even though most of you know it is "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

Should anyone be a long time visitor to the Bruce Peninsula, they might know what "North of the Checkerboard" means ... you do not know?  Just *click* HERE for the best explanation going in my "Neck of the Woods".  Not to many months ago Wiarton had been renamed the Town of South Bruce Peninsula, but for many of us we will always be Wiarton.

What has put Wiarton on the Map of Ontario to make it "shine" every February 2nd?  Let me tell you, should you not have already met the little guy respsonsible .....

Part 2 ~ Bruce County Walkabout

Once being "wowed" by the H.M.S. General Hunter, Nathan and I followed through to the World War I exhibits.

"The history encased behind these exhibits are too astounding for word, as their presence speaks for them, with no words needed.  The Victoria Cross is the highest military decoration awarded for Valour."

"Further down the corridor we learn about the "Beacons of Bruce County".  Displayed along the top of the walls are  pictures of the Lighthouse Keepers from years long gone by."

"This replica of the Chantry Island Lighthouse & Keeper's Quarters was made years ago by Lighthouse Keeper, Mrs Lambert.  To read some of the entries made in their daily diaries is beyond interesting.  My brother, Allan, told me when he was very young he had swam from Southampton's Long Dock over to Chantry Island and back.  All I can think of to say to that is "he must have been an extremely strong swimmer to have done so.", and I wonder who was Keeper of the Lighthouse at that time? as I am certain it had been over 50 years ago. "

"Ha !  I could not help but notice how tall the Long Boat was, asking Nathan to pose beside it to show this.  Nathan also took the liberty to demonstrate to me how the old Telephone Switchboard used to be operate.  Really I am of the opinion at times, Nathan is way beyond his 19 years of age."

Since the whole of the upstairs, as well as part of the downstairs of the Museum had been under construction, I was a tad disappointed there had not been more.  Also outside the main buildings, where the log home and one room Schoolhouse are situated, were "closed" for the Winter months.

Coming by a young man who worked at the Museum, I had mentioned my disappointment.  He acted quickly in escorting us outside with a set of keys in hand, to give us entry into both building.  Needless to say both Nathan and I were ecstatic and most appreciative of his kind gesture in doing this for us.

"We were far from disappointed as we walked in to see what might have at one time been a Parlor to the left of us, and then to the right a common room for where meals and such might have been taken.  Take notice of the outside "water pump" in the front of the home?  A luxury I am sure then pailing from a nearby water source I would think."

"Into the small kitchen we went next.  My first thought on seeing the "cook stove" was they must have been a rather well to do family for them to have owned such a lovely "big" cook stove such as this one."

"Upstairs there had been three bedrooms.  One room had a cradle beside the bed.  I loved the doll by the way.  Another room had a "trundle bed" beside the main bed, with the third room having a spinning wheel in it.  I did notice the doors to the rooms had been similar to a door that had been in the basement of the home I grew in up the street from here, which had been well over 100 years old at the time I was growing up there."

"Next door we entered into the one room schoolhouse.  Both Nathan and I LOVED the photo of Queen Victoria on the wall we had both noticed right off on entering."

 "That wood stove was long enough to hold some pretty good sized length of logs I thought.  Remember the "old tin" lunch pails?"

Our Tour of the Bruce County Museum came to an end.  The museum provides much more then it's exhibits at various time, so please do check that out by going into their website by *clicking* HERE.

I wanted to get a Post Card, forgetting to ask when I had been at the Southampton Town Hall's Tourist Information Centre, so back there we went again.  I was happy to received two such Post Cards to suit my purposes of Post Crossing.  We were also told there that we could obtain ourselves some Pumpkin Seeds from the World Known Annual Pumpkinfest if we were to drop over to the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce located in Port Elgin.  

Since I had to make a delivery of a Birthday Present over there anyhow, off we went, picking up my "Crabby Cabbie" Rob along the way, as he is fortunate now to have such a fantastic employee to "cover" for him when he needs a wee bit of time for us.

"This is the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce ~ Tourist Information Building located on Port Elgin's Goderich Street (Main Street for Port Elgin)."

"Here we are at my Auntie Gladys' to drop off a 75th Birthday Gift for her.  Auntie had a couple neighbours in for Tea, and Rob, of course, had eyed up the plate of goodies she was going to be serving  Yes, there he with Auntie after having wangled 1/2 Gum Drop Cake from her before leaving.  What would he ever do without MY Auntie, I do wonder some days ...."

"Here I am back at the Chamber of Commerce Building.  The first photo is where I had left Nathan, and the second is of him still there talking up a "storm" with all the gals in there; him learning something of Canada, and they of Australia from what I could gather."

"I could not head back home without first showing Nathan the Cenotaph in Southampton down on the shores of the Lake Huron Beach.  Nathan is looking down the beach towards the lighthouse located at the mouth of the Saugeen River."

"Out across the Lake is Chantry Island.  Beautiful is all is .... then it was time for us to head back home "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard"."

The day was well spent with many new memories made of the time spent with our new young Australian friend, Nathan Reynolds-Furrry, who traveled all the way from Yass, NSW to visit others and us here, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

Part 1 - Bruce County Walkabout

Up early with a coffee into me, my "Crabby Cabbie" out the door, Checkerboard Aussies attended to, bed made, dishes done up, dressed, hair combed, teeth brushed ....

"... with the girls, Lexus & Missy Mercedes loaded up, as I was off for a bit of a Bruce County Walkabout this day."

"Really?  a "Crabby Cabbie" vehicle at the Southampton Tim Hortons !  Should I be surprised?  I suppose not as I know MY "Crabby Cabbie" does LOVE himself some coffee."

"Here we are at the Southampton Library.  Southampton being my Hometown,  I remember spending many days here reading Nancy Drew books, or working on a school project, as there had been no computers back there, it was all done "by the book".  I left our young Yass, Australia visitor to "hook -up" into the library's Wifi, while I went next door .... "

"... to meet up with a certain young lady at the Tourist Information Center, within the walls of The Southampton Town Hall, also holding many memories for me.  This Town Hall has housed a Police Station, Court House, and dance hall to name only a few over the years long gone by."

"It hadn't been too long before I went back to collect Nathan so we could begin a bit of our Bruce County Walkabout up the street at ... "

"... the Bruce County Museum.  The older part was originally Southampton's school where my oldest Sister, and our brother attended until years later when the newer G.C. Huston Public School had been erected.  The new addition to the original "Old School" Museum is most certainly quite impressive looking on the outside, so inside Nathan and I took ourselves to continue our "walkabout"."

"One of the volunteers was so very kind to show Nathan and I which way we should start our Museum "walkabout" Tour.  Check out the theatre they have outfitted for presentations in the "old" school part.  Next we headed up the stairs .... quietly, of course, past the Principals office !"

"Yeppers at the top of the stairs out in the Hallway was a desk in the corner.  We all remember what that meant, do we not?  In this case, we gave Nathan a "time out", but he was way too cooperative with having one.  Good boy Nathan with no fuss or bother you are quite easy to take along on a Bruce County "Walkabout"."

"Just off the Hallway we were shown into the Archive Room.  Nathan and I were amazed at how much History those binders contained.  This Museum is the "headquarters" for all of Bruce County ... how much more impressive could it possibly get then that?  You can find anything in this room from Marriages, Deaths, Photos, Deeds, By-Laws come and gone.  You name it, and I am pretty sure it could be found here."

"Not far from where the Archive Room was we found a "Tree of Life" with Names of Children on Apples hanging from its branches.  This was used to teach Children about "Family Trees".  A bridge extends over top the new part of the museum taking us back over to the new part of the museum.  Oops a bit of construction was going on at a few spots within the premises promising some pretty fantastic future exhibits."

"What a view .. out over Fairy Lake.  I made many trips walking around this little Lake as a child, with warnings from my Mother still ringing in my ears, "don't go near the water, it is a bottomless lake".  Now that would put the fear of God into anyone thinking if something is "bottomless" you would never get out once going in !   The fear worked on me, as I am certain most of us children way back when .... "

"Nathan and I ventured from the top of the Museum down to the basement where the H.M.S. General Hunter ship was displayed in model form as well as somewhat its "original" size.  This ship had been discovered on the main beach of Southampton in 2004.  Really? how many times did I play in that sand over top that same buried ship?  who would have ever guessed?  Ha !  I went to school with Tom's daughters.  What a nice detailing did Tom Marcotte recreate in his model of the ship."

"A few artifacts displayed that had been also discovered while uncovering such an amazing find."

"How impressive is this mask towering overhead, as much so as the Cannon down below."

Holy moly it is after 9:00 pm here.  Uploading over 129 photos and organizing them all had been pretty time consuming, never mind the regular routine I had to attend to when I had arrived back home ... you know those things we "have" to do like make supper, clean up and on and on and on.

Battle of the Paper !

It was an early 5:00 am morning again.  What a surprise to find a skiff of snow, along with a brisk cold wind after the double digit high temps we had the preceding few days.  I believe the January thaw might have came to an abrupt end.

Since last week was a "write-off" in my eyes, between a day trip to Kitchener-Waterloo, "Crabby Cabbie" book work, then an onslaught of migraine headaches, I decided today I was not going to let the day escape me.

I still had to finish up the book work by figuring out the HST for the last quarter of 2012, so I tackled that first off before anything.  Once that was done I decided to go at things one at a time, as not to overwhelm myself.  It is so easy to get overwhelmed when one has not been able to keep up on a regular daily basis, ending up accomplishing nothing much when this happens.  Focus is needed to achieve accomplishment.  Focus I did. 

It became a "Battle of the Paper" this morning.  I organized and did all the filing for the "Crabby Cabbie", then proceeded onto the desk.

"I had been so "focused" on getting things done I forgot to take "before" photos, however I am very happy with the "after" photos."

"The next thing I did was reclaim my dining room table and buffet from a mess of papers !  See that pile of paper, this is what I cleared from the desk and after sorting through what to file and what not to file."

 The Wood Stove was very very happy after I had fed it a huge breakfast of Paper !!!  Another declutter job done for the Month of January !

Mission accomplished until the next "Battle of the Paper".  Once done I got everything gathered to make the trip downtown Wiarton to our bank to make a Mafia Government Pay-off, and do a couple of other little errands.

Before I left I had to try on a Backpack we had picked up for our "Checkerboard Aussies".  Who would be the perfect cooperative "model" then no other then our ....

" ... Bandit Boy.  Not too sure if he was impressed, but he did cooperate as he is the bestest boy in the whole wide World !"

I actually bought the Back Pack for Buddy and Mercedes, or maybe Bandit too (from one of the Swaps for an awesome price of $10.00) when I start taking them off property walking again.

I really hope to get back into a routine of daily walking again after two years of doing so to  doing nothing.  After having torn my Meniscus within three months of knee surgery, it tore again ! with a second surgery to follow within the same year, it really set me back from walking on a daily basis.  I have decided if it is going to tear again, so be it as I felt better when I was walking or on my treadmill daily then how I have been feeling since I ceased doing so.  Now to get myself back going on that will be the next accomplishment.

After Bandit modeled the Pack Pack for me to satisfy my curiosity, I headed further South of the Checkerboard to downtown Wiarton.  

RBC Bank - check (paid our dues)

Drug Store - check (prescription not ready)

Gilbert Shoes - check (a "hello" drop in)

Salvation Army Store - check (oops spent a wee little bit of money here)

Post Office - check (stamps) purchased

YIKES !!!  put the brakes on !!!  The price of a Stamp went up today !!! I believe about by five cents in Canada, as well as Postage to the USA and International.  Really was there not just an increase last Year???  Need to see the new prices that were implemented today? just *click* HERE.  Scroll part way down the page to see the stamp increases for Letter mail 

I had taken Bandit and Lexus along for the ride since Rob had left the two crates in the Van from our day trip last week.  They were happy campers, or should I say "passengers".  They LOVE going for rides in the Van ... and are totally awesome travellers.  Since Rob and I do not have doggie sitters when we go away for a day, they have to be excellent travellers to go along with us when need be.

It was at least 2:30 pm by the time I returned back home to let everyone have a big old run out in the brisk cold wind ... brr.  Needless to say the wood stove was "fired" up today again.

I got to thinking (what else is new) that I have been feeling out of sort the past few months since I have not had myself much of a regular routine anymore.  You know when you cook a meal for someone every day?  This has definitely not happening with my Rob working so many hours at being The "Crabby Cabbie".  As much work at times, or a bother at others, it might seem, I do miss cooking on a regular basis as it gave me a feeling of routine, never mind how much I enjoy cooking.  We need stability and routine in our lives do we not? I think so ... or at least it seems I do, as I really believe this is what I have been missing.  Oh yes, of course I have also been missing my Rob on a regular basis too, what kind of a "soul mate" and "wife" would I be if I didn't.  *Smile*

True love is what I know I have, as we are always able to make it through those up and downs to be there for each other.  To bare witness to another true love, take a moment to drop on over to Lena's Blog post of today by *clicking* HERE.  It brought tears to my eyes this day.

Since Monday evenings Rob has never worked I got to planning our meal earlier this morning by taking Back Ribs out of the freezer to thaw.  This afternoon I got going on the Easy Peasy as 1-2-3 preparation of the ribs.

"I mixed a rub of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and tomato powder (homemade) into the ribs, then placed them into the Slow Cooker."

"After the ribs had cooked on HIGH for 3 1/2 hours, I drained off the grease.  Even at this stage they look totally ready to go ... but not until I drizzled Miners' Maple Products Maple Chipolte BBQ sauce over them and left them on HIGH for another 1/2 hour while I cooked up a fry pan of leftover boiled potatoes and red onion.  I don't know about anyone else when they were growing up, but in our house we all went for the crispy crisp bottom from the fry pan ... yummy love crispy brown fried potatoes."

A new friend I have had the honor of meeting in person over Christmas, resides down in Florida every Winter.  Along with the photo she posted tonight she wrote ....

Oh man look at me ramble !!!  I didn't even feel like doing much of a post tonight and look at me go.

Also welcome Alice for making us 21 who are "on board" for the 52 Week Money Challenge.  Out of 21 of us, Alice was quick to point out that Week 49 isn't adding up as it should ... ha ! I am so happy one of us read the whole chart ... Hahaha, thanks Alice for being "quick to point" that out now as by the time I got to Week 49 I could have been "stumped" I am sure !  and for those ones who are putting the weeks in a weekly draw, don't panic as it still adds up to what it should be at the end of the 52 Weeks !
