A Totally Awesome Photo Shoot It Turned Out To Be !

Develop the ability to forgive
Forgiveness is something that most people fail miserably at even though it’s so simple. Grudges only bring more misery to those who hold them and prevent good relations with the target. YOU makes mistakes all of the time so why not have mercy when others do? Remaining angry feels horrible while forgiving someone brings a refreshing sensation to the mind and healing to the relationship.Oh this Life Secret & Tip today is a "biggie" !  Develop the ability to forgive ?  Yes holding grudges must seem like poison to someone who does, eating away at them to what avail? to what benefit? to gain what reward?  and to loose a bit of one's self in the energy lost on the dwelling of a past situation that is usually long gone and over with ..... are we that self-centered at times, we might not see beyond another's actions or words that caused the hurt, that this same person might be hurting or in mental anguish themselves?Forgive towards others, as we are not perfect, forgive one's self, as you are worthy of your own forgiveness.    Keeping in mind always, our life as we know it is precious and to harbour a grudge can strip so much away from us in loosing what we could have back in a relationship with another.  Forgive and be forgiven. To go back into my Yesterday, I am not sure it was as productive as I would have liked it to have been, as I had to be pretty quiet, as my "Crabby Cabbie" had not gotten home until 4:30 a.m, needing a "whole" bunch of "de-crabby" himself sleep.  Not sure if the nine hours sleep worked this out too well for him, as it still took him a couple of cups of coffee and bringing in wood for him to work the crabbiness out of himself ... lol.My morning had been spent doing up dishes, two loads of laundry, cleaning up the corner area around the woodstove, and of course in and out with my much loved "pack".  I am pleased to say I did get to try out my new heavy duty clothes horse....

"I am so totally pleased with it, as it can withstand the weight of jeans with no problem whatsoever.  Lot of room to hang at least eight pair of jeans, if need be, with rungs high enough that a little "Miss Someone" can not help herself to the socks ! "

Fortunately it had snowed enough this morning, with me thinking this would be the best time to be taking "family" photos, so I could send them off to Family, Friends, and some Special Acquaintances, along with Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Greeting via email and Facebook.I had planned on Rob maybe being around to help me with this, however I think me and our "Checkerboard Aussies" managed together just fine ....

"Bandit with one of his "all famous grimaces" going on here, not at all impressed with joining in on the Christmas Spirit at the moment.  LOL.   Lexus making the perfect picture of one of Santa's newest Reindeer members.  Ha,ha,ha, and little Missy Mercedes as one of Santa's newest Elfs (this picture taken a month ago, when she was still green enough for me to have her sit still this long, lol)."

After the "photo shoot" was over, I decided to load up the pup, taking us into Wiarton to do a bank errand and mail a letter.  While we were there, I decided it wouldn't hurt us one bit to go for a walk around a big block or two.By the time we arrived back home, my "Crabby Cabbie" was awake with his coffee, so Lexus and I helped him out with bringing wood in.  Once the wood was done, we headed on over to the Sauble Beach area where we had a little visit and gift exchange with my girlfriend, Colleen, and her hubby, Barrie.  While there, Frankie, their cat, was right into the Christmas Spirit.

"Isn't Frankie such a pretty picture perfect girl?  Colleen and Barrie informed us, the Christmas decorations on the lower part of the tree were made of plastic, with the glass ones much higher up on the tree.  LOL.  With having Mercedes this Christmas this is exactly one of the reasons we choose not to put the tree up this year !"

Once we arrived back home, supper was all ready for us, as I had put it all together this morning in the Slow Cooker.  What an awesome Roast Beef dinner, with carrots, potatoes, celery and gravey.

1 beef chuck shoulder roast (3 to 4 pounds)1 envelope (1 ounce) au jus gravy mix
1 envelope (1 ounce) onion soup mix
1 envelope (1 ounce) mushroom gravy mix
3 cups waterAssorted vegetables (potatoes, carrots, onions and celery)

1. Place roast in slow cooker. combine soup and gravy mixes and water in large bowl. Pour   mixture over roast. Cover; cook on LOW 4 hours.
2. Add vegetables. Cover; cook 4 hours more or until meat and vegetables are tender.
Once again an totally awesome meal done in my slow cooker.  Can I mention enough how much I love my Slow Cooker ?That was pretty much my Yesterday .... unfortunately I have, once again, forgotten to pace myself with Christmas just around the corner and so much having to be done in the way of baking and such, I am now feeling the repercussions.  I am thinking I must grudgingly "pace" myself in the day ahead ....remembering to forgive myself along the way, lol !Oh Mr. Wiarton Airport Weatherman, what up for today?

I hope we have a little bit of snow, along with safe travelling conditions for Christmas, hoping that is not asking too much ?  Maybe listening to the Celtic Women can make that happen for us ....

I am off and "pacing" towards a new adventure in my day ahead, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

It is Official I am DONE Christmas Baking !!!

This book will give you the knowledge and instruction to be happy at all times regardless of the circumstances. Yes, this sounds like an oversimplification of happiness, but I assure you that this book will change you in an amazing way.
Zen is a way of thought and meditation that focuses on the universe, the laws of nature and man’s relationship to them.   It seeks to know the essence of man’s nature and his universe and to live in harmony with both.  It is not a religion but it is a philosophy.I believe spiritually we all have a "power within" to make ourselves happy.  One needs to find their own "spiritual" path to find the key to gain entry into one's own happiness."My yesterday began in a display of beauty and peacefulness."

What a gorgeous day it turned out to be when the sun was fully risen from the Eastern skies and warming the Earth it touched upon.My yesterday was spent by first focusing on the Shortbread Cookies I had planned on getting made, so this began by ...."..... first calling my sister, Donna, for her shortbread recipe.  Donna's recipe is much simpler then Gaylea's recipe, and also margarine may be substituted for butter for those of us on a budget."

My flour sifter has seen better days, so the wirer mesh strainer suffices and does the job just as well.

As I was sifting, rolling and cutting out pretty shapes, it had dawned on me the house was pretty quiet, unusally so, giving me reason to do some investigating only to find someone else was ...

"..... found out !  Little Mercedes was enjoying herself a mid-morning "starch" snack.  The potato basket had once again been raided by this little "sneak". "

"But Mom it is so good and vegetables are good for us, are they not ?"

Once I had that little situation sorted out I continued on with the making and baking of the Shortbread cookies."The recipe would easily make approximately 3 1/2 dozen of cookies at this size."

"Of course yielding less with the larger cut outs."

"All done to be packaged up for Christmas giving and fun days ahead."

Shortbread Cookies ~ Recipe Courtesy of my Sister, Donna Marie Sift together:1/2 cup Cornstarch1/2 cup Icing Sugar1 cup FlourBlend in with Pastry Cutter, or two knives, and mix until soft smooth dough forms:3/4 cup butter or margarinePress & cut out, or shape into balls pressing with a fork, decorating as you like.  Bake in a pre-heated 300*F oven for 20-25 minutes (depending on the oven).I have to confess, I had to try a couple of the Shortbread Cookies, as shortbread have always been one of my favorites, and they taste just as "um so good" as when I made them last Christmas.
One of Cindy's Recipe Exchange members tried the Black Forest Banana Bread  recipe I had posted the other day, sharing this photo as well as stating "how happy she was to have made 4 loaves, as it is that good".  Thanks Carol for being the tried, tested and true person for this loaf, as it has now been saved and has a permanent place in Cindy's Recipe Exchange. It even gets better, as another Recipe Exchange member shared a link to a product I, myself, would be very interested in purchasing for my "Crabby Cabbie". I didn't even know this item existed until Ellen had posted the link to it on the exchange.SCCPLC200-G Crock-Pot Lunch Crock Food Warmer, Black
Can you believe "Crock-Pot The Original" makes a Lunch Crock Food Warmer ?  I was totally amazed !!!

Should there be anyone else there interested in such a nifty little convenience which has a 20 ounce capacity, and might suffice better then a wide mouth thermos, check it out at the following web link:http://www.crock-pot.com/Products.aspx?cid=112 Thanks to Ellen for sharing, as I would never had known !  Sharing and being shared with is the absolute best, is it not? After the Shortbread Adventure, I was Christmas baked out.  This afternoon I hooked up with my friend to go for an afternoon walk out and about Wiarton where we took in some of the sights along Colpoy's Bay.

"It is a wonder how water fowl can withstand the cold waters the way they do.  I get chilled just looking at them .... brr."

That was pretty much my Yesterday all summed up in a nut shell with my Christmas baking complete and a beautiful weather day enjoyed.Speaking of weather, I might as well check in with the Wiarton Airport Weatherman guy to see what he has in store for me today ....

Snow?  Heavy?  Good thing my "Crabby Cabbie" is home safe and sound, at this minute snoring away I might add, and not having to be out in any heavy snow !  It is difficult to NOT have the eye draw itself way down to all that Yellow into Saturday, is it not?  ....and don't forget the Countdown is on !!!

Really !  Check it out yourself, as there is even less time now then this, according to the Christmas Countdown clock at http://www.yourchristmascountdown.co.uk/?name=just+north+of+wiarton+&+south+of+the+checkerboard.Even with the Christmas Baking finished, there is always something needing done in preparation for Christmas Day, whether it be wrapping, cleaning, or setting the "scene".  As long as it keeps us happy and together as Family and Friends, in Celebration of the Birth of Christ, bring on the Christmas Season !"Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

Homemade & Standing By Is Simply The Very Best To Be Had, Is It Not ?

Most people get very upset when they are called negative names by others, but there is a simple trick to overcoming this. Here it is: If I went up to you and called you a fire hydrant, would you be upset? Of course not. Obviously you are not a fire hydrant, you are a human being. The same concept applies to when someone calls you something that you know you are not. They are foolish for saying such things, so why would you react with such anger? The only exception is when someone calls you something that is true! In this case, you should thank them for alerting you to a weakness, one that you can now work on changing.
Funny this should be the next Life Secret & Tip, as my best friend, Bob, and I were just talking about "name calling" yesterday, and it was not in respect to children towards each other, it was adult co-workers !  My statement to him was, "bullying is just not going on in the schools and playgrounds with children, it has carried on into the workplace as adults" !  Shame shame shame ..... it would appear with some, the level of maturity never grows.  Don't forget the age old rhyme, "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never harm me".  How I remember yelling this same rhyme out to my peers when I, myself, was a child growing up in Southampton.  I also remember reciting this rhyme to my own children throughout their growing years.  This rhyme obviously still holds true as we age, as it appears some people never "mature" and are "bullies" throughout their whole lives. Most of my yesterday morning was spent travelling to and fro from my Doctor's office in Lion's Head., as he was running behind not being able to see me at my 9 am appointment until around the 10 am mark.  Doctors lead extremely busy lives as much as we do, so I am sure we at times must allow for patience in these situations.I am just so happy my Doctor's staff are so pleasant, as usually so are the other people waiting, as it makes for a more pleasant wait.  I am now also grateful I have a Blackberry phone I can text my friends and family members, as this kept me otherwise occupied as well ...... lol.Not getting back home from "North of the Checkerboard" until at least the 11 am hour, I really didn't feel much like starting any Christmas Baking, so I got right to making some Homemade Chicken Noodle soup my "Crabby Cabbie" had requested earlier this week.  Of course, this was all started after Bandit, Lexus and Missy Mercedes were all first attended to, as how could I miss their wants and needs before anyone else?

"My "Crabby Cabbie" must have really enjoyed it as he had two bowls for his Dinner, and filled his thermos to have later at work.  I did sample it myself, and yes it was absolutely "Homemade Delish"."

Once Dinner was over with and cleaned up from it was already almost 1:30 pm, with the "Crabby Cabbie" leaving early for work at 2 pm, and me heading downtown for 3 pm to meet my friend, Sharon, for a walk. Oh I am so HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY I have found someone I have met to go walking with, as I am always looking for someone to go walking with me !!!!  Don't get me wrong, I love walking with any one of my "pack", at any given time, but it just isn't the same as having another person to walk and talk to.  It just seems you can cover more ground without hardly noticing when you have some "human" companionship to talk and walk with .... lol.  Must be the verbal interaction, as Bandit, Lexus and Mercedes can be very quiet most of the time, by just "sniffing" there way around. After our walk, I did some errands downtown Wiarton before I made it back home just before 6 pm.  Wow time flies when one is out and about walking and running around town, does it not?The rest of my evening was pretty "humdrum" with dishes, answering a few emails, in and out with the "pack", communicating back and forth a bit with my dear "Crabby Cabbie" and a phone call with my BFF (Best Forever Friend), Bob.  I think the most physical exciting part of my evening was when I set up my BRAND NEW "Clothes Horse" !!!

"I know, I know, people must think what a boring life this "South of the Checkerboard Chick" leads, if she is getting excited about a wooden drying rack.  Honesty I am just really so excited by not only how sturdy it is, but how much money I am saving in Hydro costs by utilizing the heat from our woodstove !  Key Words, "saving and money" !"

Speaking of savings, maybe "clever" should come into that phrase as well.  I received the same email this week from three different people, so I am thinking that is my "cue" to share the link for "25 Clever Ideas to Make Life Easier".  Face it who wouldn't want to make their lives easier?  so here is the "Fabulously 40" link to go to for these "clever tips":http://fabulously40.com/blog/id/25-clever-ideas-to-make-life-easier-21983I was so impressed to see the "tip" on how to fold fitted sheets the way I was shown how to 30+ years ago, as in my eyes it still stands be the only "clever" way to folding them. This pretty much sums up my yesterday, with a brand new day before me ....Christmas should be celebrated by standing by those in need the whole of the Christmas Season and all throughout the New Year of 2012.

I can honestly say, this is one song I think I would never tire of listening to.  Goodwill and Peace to All, as we, along with Family and Friends, all need each other to "Stand By".

Before I find myself an emotional wet washcloth here, I best be seeing what my Wiarton Airport Weatherman guy has to say about the day ahead.

Flurries ending, with no word of "accumulation"?  I love it !!!  As long as the roadways are clear, dry and safe to drive on, bring on the flurries, I say with not a problem.

My day is open to adventure, a "Shortbread Cookie" adventure I think, as I now head towards it, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

A Whole Lot of Bruce County Mices & Reindeer Poop ???

This is the third and final way to rid yourself of negative thoughts (hopefully by now you have figured out that this is very important!). Place a rubber band around your wrist and snap it against your skin anytime a negative thought finds its way into your head. This operate conditioning technique associates a slight pain with negative thoughts like Pavlov associated food/salivation with the sound of a bell. Sounds a bit cruel at first but it only stings for a second, I promise. Plus the outcome, having only positive thoughts, far outweighs a little slap on the wrist here and there.
Hahaha, not only would I hurt myself using the "Rubber Band Method", I would more then likely need a reminder to use it when I was suppose to.  This is another good one I was aware of years ago, but never have practised myself, so should anyone who knows me see me going around with a rubber band on my wrist, you will know what it is all about.  LOL

"So began my yesterday ..... cloudy and mild temperatures with mostly rain all throughout the day."

I most certainly wasn't as productive as I would have liked to have been, but I did manage to accomplish a couple of things.  It all started in my kitchen ...."Ingredients all set out and made ready."

"The assembly line organized and well oiled."

" .... I am really not too sure about the kind of help there was to be had?"

"Somehow we did manage to bring it together, ending up with a bunch of "blind" and "scentless" mices.  Then figured out what kind of concoction was needed to give them their eyes and noses."

"With eyes and sniffers they all appeared in hoards travelling in about my kitchen ..... "Invasion of the Bruce County Chocolate Christmas Mice" !!! "

Not only was there an invasion of Mices in my kitchen, but what a mess to clean up after all the "Reindeer Poop" !"I would think just in time to be bagged up for some "gift" giving !"
It most certainly was a Chocolate Mice and Reindeer adventurous kind of day !

Should anyone like to give there own "someone" special some "Reindeer Poop", here is how it is done.

Reindeer Poop

2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
6 level tablespoons of cocoa
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups rolled oats
1 cup coconut
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Step 1: Mix the sugar, milk, salt, butter and cocoa in a saucepan
Step 2: Bring to boil and boil for 1 to 2 minutes
Step 3: Take the mixture off the stove and add the rolled oats, coconut and vanilla. Mix well.
Step 4: Drop by spoonfuls onto a cookie sheet or plates
Step 5: Chill in the fridge for 2 hours
Step 6: Write out the poem to be attached to your gifts
Step 7: Remove cookies from fridge and have fun finding ways to package them.

THE REINDEER POOP POEM
On the night before Christmas, I heard St. Nick call, "Dash away, dash away, dash away all!" I scurried out to the lawn and in the snow drifts, those naughty reindeer had left behind "little gifts". I got out an old shovel and started to scoop, neat little piles of "reindeer poop", but because I recycle, and don't like to waste, I saved them all up for you to taste !

Be creative with the packaging, as I only used what I had around the house, but don't forget to add the "Reindeer Poop" Poem, as that is half the fun.  I am making a "special" delivery myself this morning when I go up to my Doctor's office ..... lol.

Chocolate Mice?  Well I just found a web link and went from there.  This is the one I sort of followed,

I otherwise used Icing sugar and water to make icing for eyes and noses, and Hershey kisses for the heads.

There are many methods online, as well as "how to videos", so doing some surfing for what would be most suitable to an individual would be best.

With being in and out with a certain little Miss Mercedes throughout the day, having Bandit & Lexus out for runs ..... and the surmountable sink full of dishes that goes along with Bruce County Mice and Reindeer Poop, it was pretty much a full day !

By the time I had sat down around the 7:30 pm hour to write out the "Reindeer Poop" poem, it had started to be a ......

..... kind of evening so of course I had to fire up the woodstove.

It was pretty nippy out there earlier on this morning when Missy Mercedes and I were first out, so I best be checking in with the Wiarton Airport Weatherman guy to see what the rest of the day will bring.

Yes Sirree, there is is in grey and white, with not one little bit of Yellow in it.   -4 ? ... baby it is cold out there, but alas he can not hear me, as my "Crabby Cabbie" baby is still fast asleep after the big day he had working yesterday !

People to see and things to do, so I best be getting on with my new adventure into the day ahead, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

Two More Down & Ten More Days Before It Is ?

TravelAnyone who has ever gone anywhere will tell you that traveling is one of the most exciting and life-changing activities that you can do. Observing a different culture will expand your mind while making you further appreciate the life you already live. This goes back to becoming an explorer: this world is your jungle so go explore! Who knows, maybe you’ll find a place you love so much that you decide to move. Imagine the positive repercussions a new environment could have on your life.
Who wouldn't want to travel? a few here and there I am sure, however I not being one of them.  Thoughts of travelling abroad have always been in my dreams, but really haven't so far been reachable in my lifetime.  Should there be a time travelling abroad is possible, I hope I squelch my fears of flying and embrace it.In the meantime, as I have said before, there is a whole World in front of me by way of my fingertips going across the keyboard ..... amazing photography and cultures at any given time.My yesterday got off to a slow start, but it did eventually get going with having a couple goals accomplished.  Two hours sleep a night does not enable to be at their very best when it comes to "getting r done", now does it?  I am sure there will be hopefully a night in the very near future Mr. Insomnia will stop coming a courting for a bit, and I will have myself some catch-up sleep.
First thing in the morning, while the frost was still in the ground, and after my daily blog had been posted of course, Bandit and Mercedes had themselves a big run in the field.  Then before the rain started pouring down sometime before the dinner hour, Lexus and I went out to the garden to pick ourselves some beets.  Thank goodness, cause the rain did come tumbling down the whole rest of the day and evening .....Once Rob had gotten up from his not too "de-crabbiness" slumber, we headed downtown to run a couple of chores before lunch.

"Downtown Wiarton certainly looks like it is ready for Christmas, but there just seems to be something missing from the picture ..... "

After our running around was done, it was time to come home to get Dinner on the go.Rob, as so does our son, Paul, loves Schnitzel so schnitzel, new potatoes and fresh picked beets from the garden were on our Dinner menu for this day.  Have I mentioned before how much I love beets as a vegetable? of course I have !  "I so enjoyed our Dinner, with my mouth still watering looking at these photos .... good thing there are enough leftovers for "me" today !"
Once lunch was over with, the usual cleanup completed, my "Crabby Cabbie" off to work, it was time for me to get down to business.  That would be Christmas goodie business and I got all over it.  First I started with the easiest, of course, and got going on the Rocky Roads.

"Mixed, melted, cooled a bit before adding marshmallows then pressed into a wax paper lined dish."

"Chilled, cut in half for wrapping, and put back into the fridge, out of sight and mind from my "chocolate" urges and "hips".

Rocky Roads, a favorite I make year after year after year .....

1 Cup Peanut Butter (which I just realized not that I forgot to put in these ones, lol)
3 Cups of Butterscotch Chips (2 Butterscotch & 1 cup Chocolate as I ran out of butterscotch)
1/2 cup margarine
3 cups white miniature marshmallows

Melt peanut butter, chips & margarine in a dbl. boiler. Let mixture cool a bit before adding marshmallows.

Line 9x12 inch pan with wax paper. Press mixture into pan & sprinkle with chopped walnuts.

Refrigerate for 2 hour.
 — at Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard.
Warning !  Do NOT attempt to make any of these recipes when tired, as ingredients have been known to be left out, but then again maybe this is how new creations have been founded?  LOL  I was also short a cup of Butterscotch chips, so a cup of chocolate was the substitution.  As soon as I pickup some more Butterscotch chips, I will be making the original version of this recipe, with the Peanut Butter !Once again, one of Rob and Paul's favorites are Marshmallow Rolls (or Stained Glassed Windows).  Since I really despise the taste and texture of coconut, I made one roll without.

"Chocolate/margarine mixed melted and cooled a bit before marshmallows are added, then rolled out onto wax paper to form a log."

"Rolled in coconut on waxed paper, before being also wrapped in waxed paper and refrigerated.  Notice the one roll without the coconut, it has been sampled already and was "delectable"."
The amount pictured above is what this recipe yields:
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 pkg coloured miniature marshmallows
4 tbsp butter or margarine
2 cup icing sugar
1 cup chopped walnuts
shredded coconut (to roll in)

Melt butter & chocolate together over hot water; remove from heat adding well beaten eggs & Icing sugar, 2 tsp. vanilla and beat until glossy (I used a wooden spoon); add 1 cup walnuts. Mix & cool a little before adding marshmallows so not to melt them. Stir in marshmallows & stir until coated. Pour on wax paper to spread out, sprinkling/rolling in coconut. Form into a roll using wax paper to surround it. Put into fridge to cool. Slice before serving into 1/8 inch slices.

Can also be shaped into balls & rolled in coconut or icing sugar, or pressed into a pan for squares also coating with a sprinkle of Icing sugar.

NOTE: This must be kept refrigerated.
 — at Just North of Wiarton.
That was that for my Christmas goodies this day, as it had been a full day between making Dinner, doing these two items, and never mind the amount of dish washing that goes hand in hand with all of it !  Oops, speaking of which there was also cleanup after I had strained and put the Chicken Broth I had made Sunday into containers to be frozen for a later use."Four Litres of stock with enough left in the pot to make a Chicken Noodle soup from today."

Oh man, I am still tired from my Yesterday, before my Present day gets started here, as I try not to get myself  overwhelmed by thinking too far ahead into the Future days and what still needs to be done .... it always gets done, and what doesn't was not important in the first place, so no need for "worries" after all.Oh yes, and the exciting part of my yesterday was I won a book from We Are Pet Nation, who I follow on Facebook and Twitter.  All I had to do was comment on their weekly "product", which just happened to be Dr. Pitcairn's "Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats, and my name was added to a weekly random draw.  Wow I am sure I can use a guide like this to refer to, especially with my "pack", or for one of my many other Pet Loving friends, who might be looking for some natural health solutions for their own pet. A Lover of Pets?  Check out We Are Pet Nation on their website as follows:  http://www.wearepetnation.com/You will not be disappointed, I can almost guarantee it.Onto my Present day and the Wiarton Airport Weatherman guy's report.
Ten Days before Christmas with temperatures like these?  Not totally unheard of, but really enough already !Lots to do with a couple more Christmas goodies yet to be prepared, so I am, once again, off and running towards a new adventure, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".
