All "Cracked" UP

The Migraine overtook me finally and completely yesterday with me going to bed at 6:30 pm last night.  That didn't work out too well for me either as I was awake with the same, or another headache, at 2:00 am,.  Between the headache and the Fibro pain, I never did get back to sleep.  All considering I did get 7 hours sleep from 7 pm til 2 am, which is extremely doing well for me in my books.

Finally after more medications, by the time the noon hour had rolled around the migraine had enough of me and went elsewhere.

Winter is never usually very kind to me.  This year hadn't been too bad until the past week when it really started turning cold, when I really begin feeling all "cracked" up.

My index finger now has a very deep crack in it making typing quite painful, never mind how dry the rest of me is.  Tonight I resort to the "Crack" cream !  this creams is made by a local pharmacist, who in turn procured the recipe from a pharmacist from Hoegler's Phamary in Kitchener, some years ago.  Believe me it WORKS !  just having it applied overnight makes a difference.  I really should stock up in case it is never to be available again.

Today I puttered at a bit of this and that, getting exactly a bit of this and that accomplished.

I have had a hankering for Potato Leek Soup for the past while, and decided this was the day I would make us some for our Lunch.

Truly it does not get as easy or good then making it this way:

1 large Russet Potato peeled, diced and boiled until just fork tender; 1 pkg. of Knorr Cream of Leek Soup cooked according to package directions.  Once Leek Soup is cooked, add potatoes, serve  immediately and enjoy.

This past week it has been "Retro Week" over in Cindy's Recipe Exchange on Facebook.  Today I made the "retro" recipe I am going to share there.  This is one recipe I have not made for quite some time (due to Rob really not being too fond of it whatsoever, but will tolerate it if he has to).  This recipe was a staple in my household when my boys were very young in the late 70's, early 80's.

Creamy Tuna Noodle Casserole:

Broad Egg Noodles cooked according to pkg instructions; 2 cans of Cream of Mushroom Soup;  1/2 cup of milk; 1 cup of Peas, 1 can of Mushroom slices, 2 cans of flaked Tuna.  Mix all together with cooked noodles.

Topping:  1 cup of Cheddar Cheese, 1 1/2 cups of Panko or reg. Bread Crumbs & 1/4 cup melted butter mixed together, and added to top of casserole mixture.

Bake in a 350*F Oven for 20-30 minutes or until heated through.

Something that made me *smile* today since I had missed it on TV last evening on the Rick Mercer Report, and came across it on Facebook (and I do LOVE me some Chapman's Frozen Chocolate Yogurt):

Something that made me *smile* today when I changed it up just a "wee" bit, and then added it to The "Crabby Cabbie" Facebook page (Rob has yet to see this):

On that note I think I will wrap it up and call it a night, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

  4. Rod suffers like you with cracked bleeding hands. I have one on my thumb at the moment and boy does it hurt. Yours looks so sore.

The soup looks really good as do the tuna casserole. We need hearty foods like that at the moment with this cold bitter weather.

  5. So sorry about your pain and oh, that hand looks painful! I have been using my new cream, the generic of Eucerin Aquaphore, and it works wonders especially if I remember to use it twice a day.

I used to love Tuna Noodle Casserole! How could anybody NOT like it??? Tell Rob his taste buds are broken:)))

  7. My Mom used to have a job at Eatons, at night. She cleaned and dusted all the glass shelves of china, crystal, silver, and the shelves themselves. She used to get wicked cracks in her fingers from something or other while she worked there. At night she would liberally coat her hands in Vaseline and put on disposable gloves. A week or so of that and they would heal up!

  10. Hugs for you, Cindy. I hope you are feeling better. My mom gets deep cracks like that in the winter. Very painful and hard to not re-split them.

I've only recently discovered leeks--maybe within the past year. I love them! Great soup you have here. Comforting, but no fuss to make. Thank you for sharing!
