Baaa Baaa....Have You Any Wool?

This morning had been my usual trip "North of the Checkerboard" for my weekly shot in the arm by my Doctor, then back home again to do a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

"I jarred up the mushrooms I had dehydrated through the night."

Shortly after I had arrived home my brother, Allan, dropped around ....

"...as today is his Birthday and I had a Card for him.  I also gifted him a Jar of  Canned Stewed Tomatoes, Pickled Beets and  Black Bean & Corn Salsa, along with some fresh garden tomatoes.  He always loves when I gift him my Preserves more then anything else for his Birthday.  Happy Birthday Al and many more for you ... xxx."

This afternoon I set off on a mini adventure ....

"I had to first head out of Wiarton over Oxeden way."

"Where I made a right turn, going by Gleason Pottery."

"It was a beautiful drive with the Fall colours as I came upon Lake Charles."

"A turn to the right, and a turn to the left brought me to exactly where I wanted to be."

Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes, sir, yes, sir,
Three bags full;
One for the master,
And one for the dame,
And one for the little boy
Who lives down the lane.

"Ah ... this would be Brian DeJong, himself."

"Where am I ? of course I am at the DeJong Acres Farm where some Sheep Shearing was going on.  Baaaaaa ....."

"I was in "awe" on how easy these two guys made it seem.  And fast???  they were faster then any shearer I have ever seen ... they being the first."

"I am out of here !!! "

"No way we are going anywhere now .... can't you see we are "NAKED"????"

It was amazing to watch.  The girls were had been filling the bags with the raw wool.  I forgot to ask Brian how heavy one of those bags would be.  The raw wool will be shipped down Blyth way to be processed from there.  There had been 200 sheep sheared at the DeJong Acres Farm this day.  Phew ... that was a lot of work; no wonder those shearer guys are so slim, trim and all muscle.

Today was the 2nd Annual Thanksgiving "Open House" at the DeJong Acres Farm.  Into the store I then made my way ....

"Rosemary Peer (above) was there with her Fifth Avenue Jewellry, and "Sunny" Sandy (below) with her Mary Kay products.  Lots of lovely personal or gift ideas made readily available.

What does DeJong Acres Farm have to offer, well let us take a tour just on that subject.....

"An awesome selection of Epicure Products.  Something not found? no worries, as Anita can order it in."

"Lots of tasty samples of the Epicure Products were readily available to be tasted."

"DeJong Acres Farms also have their own Honey and Beewax products.  There is nothing quite as sweet as Honey, now is there?"

Drum roll please ...... look at those honkin' (or not) huge Fresh Turkeys !!!  and freezers full of home grown Chicken, Lamb and Pork.   Oh must not forget the Farm Fresh Eggs while you are there.  Still time to order that fresh Turkey for Thanksgiving now by calling 519-534-1211.  Or maybe you might already be thinking ahead to Christmas?"

"~ Fresh & Local is Best !!! ~ "

I had an excellent mini adventure again this day, thoroughly enjoying the visit to the DeJong Acres Farm once again.  Never a disappointment when I see Anita and Brian "Award Winning" smiles and that of their two girls Rayleen and Nicole.

Well worth the drive, not too far away, out to Lake Charles ....

"I took my leave back down the laneway to take in this view at the end of it ... breathtaking is it not?"

"Again passing through Oxeden back towards Wiarton as I overlook Colpoy's Bay."

I was thinking to myself how fortunate I am to live in such beautiful surroundings.  Truly I am blessed.

That was a pretty big day once again with me almost all in but for my shirt tail.
On that note, this has always made me *smile* no matter how tired I have been.  I am thinking Brian DeJong might like one of these for his sheep rather then one of my Australian Shepherd dogs???

Then I was thinking even my friend, John Gray over at Going Gently might also like one himself for those two new sheep he has mowing down his field for him.  Maybe along with a huge bucket of sweet feed to bring them around?  Ha !

Hopefully it will be an early evening here for me, as there is much to be done tomorrow (as usual).  Spelling or Grammar errors?  too bad, so sad, as I don't care since I am too dang, dang, triple dang otherwise tired at this moment, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard".

  1. Another great day out for you. You have certainly got your money's worth from those dehydrators.

    1. Yes, Debby, those roads were "hot" yesterday, as I could not miss seeing the sheep shearing or the "open" house. And YES I am enjoying filling up those jars big time.
