Broken Habit Three Years Past

Whoop Whoop !!!  It has been three, that would be "3" Years, today since I broke the Habit of Smoking ! I do not regret my choice of quitting, however if I am being honest, there are many days I still "crave" a cigarette.

Rob still smokes, however never in the house, nor in our vehicles, so this makes it much easier and more pleasant on/for me.

To "quit" smoking is far from an easy task, surely being one of the most difficult I have ever done I am sure of this.  Now what I can't figure out is if I had the "willpower" to quit smoking after doing so for 35 Years, why can't I have the "willpower" to loose 15 pounds?  Hmm, there are some things I am sure I will never be able to figure out .... lol.

I had another very full day today.

"Everything was cleared out of the dining room area, with the old area carpet rolled up and removed, with all the floors, baseboards, and even the light/fan fixture all washed down.  Very time consuming it was, taking up pretty much the whole morning."

"Everything put back with the "new" area carpet in place.  It was a bit short of width on each side from what the other area carpet was, however I can live with it.  Regardless, the colours fit in rather nicely."

"For our Supper I thought I would use up a couple of the Turkey Drumsticks I had gotten on 1/2 price the other day, in a Slow Cooker Recipe I had googled.  Both Rob and I enjoyed how our Supper had turned out."

Recipe please?  You may find it here, Sage Turkey Thighs (or Drumsticks).

Once I was done the dining area, I wanted to make a recipe on of the members had posted onto Cindy's Recipe Exchange.  This was my next task of the day ....

"Cream of Cauliflower Soup.  Rob & I both do love cauliflower, and this soup was simply "delish".  Rob even got a couple of Grilled Cheese sandwiches served up to him on the side."

Recipe please?

Cream of Cauliflower Soup

Ok keep in mind with this that I am Australian and these are in Aussie measurements and I am sorry but I don't know how to convert :)

Ingredients:

1/4 cauliflower
2 & 1/4 cups milk
2 & 1/4 cups water
60gram (2 oz) butter
1/3 cup flour
1 chicken stock cube
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
salt, pepper
1/4 cup cream

Method:

Trim cauliflower and cut into large flowerets. Wash well. Place in saucepan with milk and water. Bring to boil, reduce heat, simmer slowly, covered, until just tender.

Remove from heat; drain, reserve liquid.

Melt butter in saucepan, stir in flour, cook 1 minute. Remove from heat, gradually stir in reserved liquid. Return to heat, bring to boil, stirring; stir until smooth and thickened.

Reduce heat, stir in crumbled stock, nutmeg, and salt and pepper to taste. stir in cream.
Cut Cauliflower into small flowerets, return to soup. Heat through gently

Serves 4 to 6

NOTE:  I used a whole small head of cauliflower, rather then 1/4 of one, as well as 5 Tbsp. of butter.

*Sigh*, another fantastic recipe makes it into my "favorites".  I really do need to get a handle on some recipe organization one of these fine days, maybe once the Winter months roll around again.

What am I talking about Winter months rolling around, they are calling for "SNOW" here in the amount of 2 cm or more in some areas, changing to rain again tomorrow.  Oh man, is Spring ever going to be "sprung" to stay?

I am so excited, as I am going to be involved in a Secret Sisters Swap, wherein I will be given a person's name, address, a few of their likes/dislikes so I can make them a parcel and send it off to them, in turn receiving one back.  It will be "fun" and "interesting", and I am so looking forward to it.  Anyone can join in by this Friday, but just going over to Carla's at My 1/2 Dozen Daily .....

"....just by "clicking" right HERE."

Once lunch was cleaned up from, we had to make a trip over to our Mechanics to pickup Rob's "Crabby Cabbie" vehicle.  This took another chunk out of the day, but a good one, as I do enjoy visiting him and his wife.

Oh yes, also this afternoon I got a real good start on giving my sweet Lexus a good brushing out.  With the North winds the way they were today, the hair went flying right off, I am sure way over Lake Huron across to the USA somewhere, or beyond !

Yesterday my Auntie Gladys emailed me, sharing with me the following, which of course I have to share with everyone else ....

Charles Kingsley, author of the children's classic :The Water Babies", reminds us that it is "a blessed thing for any man or woman to have a friend". He also points out that friendships often need work but they are usually worth the effort.

"If we have had the good fortune to win such a friend," he wrote, "let us do anything rather than lose them. We must give and forgive: live and let live, if our friends have faults we must bear with them."

"We must hope all things, believe all things, endure all things, rather than lose that most precious of earthy possessions - a trusty friend. And a friend once won need never be lost, if we will only be trusty and true ourselves."

I also would like to acknowledge those new persons who have chosen to join me here as "Followers".  "Welcome", I do hope you enjoy my daily ramblings .... as I do enjoy you being here with me.  Thank you.

Never mind the weather, it will be what it will be, as our wood stove is "fired" up with it being nice and toasty in here, "Just North of Wiarton & South of the Checkerboard"

  4. twenty eight years of non-smoking for me - 70-a-day to Zero "cold turkey" and I never regretted it - Mind you, no-one could have civil conversation with me for two year lol!

Went to dinner last night at Ewe'n'Me restaurant. Great night and servings came on 'manhole cover' plate sizes - Garlic Prawns, Seafood au gratin, lamb schnitzel and cottage pie - the 'doggy bags' were required - and two very nice bottles of Australian white wine.
